ABOUT

My little backyard farm continues to grow in an attempt to slow down and enjoy life, nature and return to a simpler way of life. The garden began five years ago with just six potting soil bags into which tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers and cantaloupes were planted.  In 2013 it consisted of a few raised beds  and we added a dozen chickens for eggs.  2014-15 The garden continued to expand. There are big things in store for 2016.

The new farm is 35 acres in south-central Virginia less than two miles from North Carolina.  It is also situated midway between the Atlantic coast and the mountains of the western side Virginia.

Abandoned years ago the small, century old farmhouse needs complete restoration.  A new well and septic system are also needed.  There is a good sized barn which, except for needing the siding repaired is in surprisingly good condition.  There are remnants of old out buildings which must be removed, and one small barn which can be salvaged.

There is plenty of open space for livestock, crops and garden.  As well as acres of mature hardwood timber.  A small, spring fed pond completes the picture.

While we spend an average of one week monthly at the new farm getting it ready to live on, we will still be maintaining the garden at our little CT homestead for one more season.

I hope you will join us on our journey to our new life at the new homestead by visiting here often where you will be able to watch our progress, mis-steps, hindrances and hopefully, success as we move into our new home.

Thanks for visiting.

~ Kathleen
