Where's Spring or at least normal March weather?

This is what the first snowfall of the year left on my garden.  Since that time an additional 3 feet has accumulated on top of this.

Our poor chickens have been doing amazingly well despite the extreme temperatures which rarely reached 20 degrees F, and dropped as low as -11 degrees at night.  We put an electric heater in hen house on those bitter nights to help them.

Somehow, we still were collecting eggs every day!  Some days we only collected 2 eggs from the 15 girls, but they tried.  Now they have been increasing the numbers and we are now up to 12 eggs per day.

It is fun to watch them in the snow.  Some of them haven't let the snow or the cold bother them at all, while others won't step foot out the door.  Our White Rocks are daredevils!  The run and jump and play in the snow!

Last week Nick cleared an area in front of the hen house down to the ground so all the girls could come out.  The less brave ones chose to hop from fence post, to compost post etc to avoid touching the ground.

They are all tougher than I.  Last week I gave in and decided it was a good time to visit our daughter who lives in Florida.  It is great to see her again and to be warm both indoors and outdoors.

I can't wait for spring to be able to work in the garden again and to watch my girls as they resume their foraging for insects and greens!
